Binder Terminology
Standard Three Ring Vinyl Heat Sealed Binders: The material used to manufacture this product is PVC or Poly Vinyl Chloride, and comes in a variety of colors and thicknesses. Twelve and Fourteen gauge are the most popular thicknesses, however other thicknesses and colors are available on large volume orders. The board that is used in this product is a Standard 120 pt. chipboard, and the metal is normally a Standard 11” X 8 ½” three ring to hold a standard size sheet. Exposed rivets on back spine are Standard, however concealed rivets can be ordered at an up charge. These Standard Binders can be decorated utilizing various techniques such as Silk Screening, Four Color Process Printing, Digital Printing, and Foil Stamping.
Custom Three ring and Multiple Ring Binders: Custom Binders consist of a variety of variations from the Standard Three Ring Vinyl Binder. Special materials, board and multiple ring metals can be ordered, in addition to a wide variety of decorating techniques. Entrapment Binders: Entrapment Binders have a clear overlay sheet that can be placed over your printed sheet on the outside of the Binder. The advantage of this product is that you can place a four color printed sheet on the outside and incase this sheet permanently to give your Binder a very upscale look. A wide variety of inside vinyl colors are available to coordinate the printed material entrapped on the outside of this Binder.
Clear Overlay Binders: Clear Overlay Binders are similar to the Entrapment Binder with the exception that the outside sheets are not permanently encased in the clear vinyl. These Binders allow you to remove the printed sheets which will make the Binder flexible to reuse for future meetings and projects.
Easel Binders: Easel Binders are Custom Binders that can be used for Presentations and Point of Purchase Displays. The Binder is manufactured to stand up and open so that the contents can be displayed in an upright position. This type Binder is perfect for meetings where data or charts must be displayed and reviewed. Easel Binders can be manufactured in several different styles utilizing a wide variety of materials depending on the needs of the client.
Expanded and Expanded Supported Binders: These Binders are manufactured from Expanded Vinyl, both Unsupported and Supported. This material is normally thicker and has a sponge type feel. These Binders normally have a higher quality look than Standard Binders, and exemplify leather. The Expanded Supported Binder, which has a Fabric Backing for strength, is manufactured utilizing a method called Seal/Cut, where the vinyl is sealed and then cut to size. Expanded Vinyl and Expanded Supported Vinyl are often used when decorating techniques require Foil Stamping, Debossing or Embossing. The overall look is very much like real Leather. Durability is also a factor. The Expanded and Expanded Supported vinyl is generally thicker and stronger then standard twelve and fourteen gauge Unsupported Vinyl.
Post Binders and Catalog Binders: Post Binders and Catalog Binders are used when added capacity, longevity and extra strength and durability is needed in a Binder.
These products are Custom Made and come in a variety of styles. Normally from 2 ½” capacity to 5” capacity is required when requesting a Post or Catalog Binder.
Metal Hinges as well as thicker and more durable cover materials can be added for strength and durability. Please consult your Binder Representative who can help you in deciding which Post or Catalog Binder best fits your needs.
Turned Edge Binders: Turned Edge Binders are considered the Old World Style, dating back to the beginning of Loose Leaf Binder Construction. These Binders can be manufactured from a wide variety of materials including, supported vinyl, cloth, paper and many other specialty materials.
Two basic type constructions are Square Corner and Round Corner. Also included is a technique called French Turned Construction. All three techniques can be explained by your Binder Sales Representative.
Turned and Sewn Binders: Turned and Sewn is the highest quality binder manufactured today. Manufactured from Real Leather, Urethanes and Expanded Vinyls, the corners are not only turned but the exterior of the binder is sewn. This adds exceptional character to the Binder, and gives the Binder that crafted custom one of a kind look. Zippers can also be attached as well to give your Binder the highest quality look possible.
Poly Binders: If you are looking for durability and economy, Poly Binders are a good choice. These Binders come in a wide variety of material colors and thicknesses, and can also be decorated utilizing Silk Screen and Digital Printing Techniques.
